Toronto Fascia

Need Toronto fascia repaired or replaced? A fascia is another component of a Toronto roof that could need repair or replacement. One of the most frequent roof related problems we see here in the Toronto market is rotting fascia board and soffits. The purpose of a fascia is to secure the guttering to make sure that the rainwater drains properly from the roof. Overhanging the walls are the soffits, which should have ventilation holes according to modern building standards. The holes keep the roof aired so the wood isn't damaged by dampness. Fascia boards are very essential as they are useful and necessary for moisture prevention to the roofline. We have found that many fascia and soffit problems are due to shingles being improperly installed at the eave. Simply put, the shingles are "short-laid", meaning they do not extend past the fascia board far enough to allow the rain water to fall harmlessly into the gutter below. In some instances, the shingles extend only 1/2" past the fascia board. That is why it is so important to have a Toronto roofing specialist install or repair your roof.

Benefits

One of the primary benefits of fascia board is protection for your home and roof. The boards act like a border that keeps the end of the roof from touching the side of the house. When the roof ends at the wall, it lets water drip from the roof down to the walls and pool around the foundation. The buildup of water seeps through the walls and foundation, causing water damage inside the home. The fascia board pushes the water off the house by a few inches, keeping the water away from the house, which helps with both rain and snow.

Complications

There can be some challenges in replacing fascia. Some issues include, working at heights, asbestos contained in eaves linings, lead based painting, repointing and bedding verges and ridge tiles as well as hip tiles.

Causes

Some causes which make fascias rot include poor paintwork, breakdown of paintwork, end grain of timber joints not sealed during the installation process, wrong selection of timber for external use, leaks in guttering, cracked roof tiles and many more. Because fascia is exposed to the elements, it is extremely susceptible to damage from rain and snow which we see a lot of here in Toronto. Unfortunately, the rot can spread to other areas of the roof, including the rafters and eaves. The fascia board may also suffer damage as the result of tree limbs falling off the roof or a high wind that tears off the wood. Cladding, fascia boards, soffit boards and guttering can be the finishing touches to a Toronto home and can really make a difference in how it is perceived. If you have just bought a dilapidated building in need of renovation, or are just looking to update the outside of your own home, then investing in quality exterior and roofline products will completely transform it your Toronto property and get it noticed.
